First Birthday

Nicholas' first birthday has come and gone and we are all wiped out. On Thursday (10/2/08), his actual birthday, we brought him his own cake for daycare. Jimmy and I left work early to sing to him with his teachers and to see him eat his first cake. Miss Denise made him a birthday crown and we put on his birthday bib and gave him his cake. He didn't want to have anything to do with the hat or the cake. It was very funny. We ended up taking his hand and putting it in the cake, and he just kept making the yuck face.

From there, we drove to Costa Mesa to have his one year picture taken as well as our Christmas pictures, and the photographer gave him another cake. Again he did not want anything to do with it. She took some pictures of him with it, but he still would not eat it.

We went to Auntie Tracy's house from there to begin getting ready for his party.

On Friday, we ran around picking up cupcakes and getting all of the food we needed (or thought we needed anyway).

On Saturday it was party day! The bouncy house people woke us up at 7:00am and from there is was the chaos of filling balloons, setting up tables, cooking, and just getting everything together; all the while praying for it not to rain. Thank goodness it never did! It was a little chilly, but other than that it was perfect. People came and ate, we brought out the huge fish pinata and the kids got the candy, we brought out the third cake which he still did not want to eat and opened presents. It was a great day all around and we were wiped out by the time it was over.

We are so grateful to Auntie Tracy and Uncle Stu, for opening their home to us (and to our family and friends) and for cooking such yummy food. We are also grateful for the family and friends that drove the hour (or so) to come spend the day with us and show us how special our family is to themSmile, and to all of those that weren't able to come but still sent well wishes to our little man on his special day.
